| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Alberto "Beto" Medrano, who died |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | October 21, 2016, at the age of 77; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Alberto Medrano was born in July of 1939 to Maria |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and Francisco Medrano; he graduated from Brownsville High School |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and served in the United States Army and the Texas National Guard |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | before attending Pan American University, where he studied |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | criminal justice and sociology; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He enjoyed a long and distinguished career in law |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | enforcement that included service as a police officer in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Brownsville and Edinburg; he also worked as a juvenile probation |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | officer and as a parole officer, and he taught criminal justice |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in the Brownsville Independent School District for 23 years; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Medrano was active in a wide range of civic |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | organizations, and he was focused on helping young people; he |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | generously gave his time to such groups as the Good Neighbor |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Settlement House, the Esperanza Home for Boys, Big Brothers Big |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Sisters, and the West Brownsville Lions Club; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife of 42 years, Elizabeth |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Medrano, raised two children together, Marisa and David, and they |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | were blessed with a grandson, Noah; a devout Christian who |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | practiced his faith in his daily life, he was a member of First |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | counsel will not be forgotten; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | family of Alberto Medrano; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | memory of Alberto Medrano. |
