44 Alberto Medrano
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Alberto "Beto" Medrano, who died
77 October 21, 2016, at the age of 77; and
88 WHEREAS, Alberto Medrano was born in July of 1939 to Maria
99 and Francisco Medrano; he graduated from Brownsville High School
1010 and served in the United States Army and the Texas National Guard
1111 before attending Pan American University, where he studied
1212 criminal justice and sociology; and
1313 WHEREAS, He enjoyed a long and distinguished career in law
1414 enforcement that included service as a police officer in
1515 Brownsville and Edinburg; he also worked as a juvenile probation
1616 officer and as a parole officer, and he taught criminal justice
1717 in the Brownsville Independent School District for 23 years; and
1818 WHEREAS, Mr. Medrano was active in a wide range of civic
1919 organizations, and he was focused on helping young people; he
2020 generously gave his time to such groups as the Good Neighbor
2121 Settlement House, the Esperanza Home for Boys, Big Brothers Big
2222 Sisters, and the West Brownsville Lions Club; and
2323 WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife of 42 years, Elizabeth
2424 Medrano, raised two children together, Marisa and David, and they
2525 were blessed with a grandson, Noah; a devout Christian who
2626 practiced his faith in his daily life, he was a member of First
2727 Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon; and
2828 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
2929 gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
3030 counsel will not be forgotten; and
3131 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
3232 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
3333 his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Alberto Medrano; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Alberto Medrano.
