                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27
 In Memory
 of
 Alberto Medrano
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Alberto "Beto" Medrano, who died
 October 21, 2016, at the age of 77; and
 WHEREAS, Alberto Medrano was born in July of 1939 to Maria
 and Francisco Medrano; he graduated from Brownsville High School
 and served in the United States Army and the Texas National Guard
 before attending Pan American University, where he studied
 criminal justice and sociology; and
 WHEREAS, He enjoyed a long and distinguished career in law
 enforcement that included service as a police officer in
 Brownsville and Edinburg; he also worked as a juvenile probation
 officer and as a parole officer, and he taught criminal justice
 in the Brownsville Independent School District for 23 years; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Medrano was active in a wide range of civic
 organizations, and he was focused on helping young people; he
 generously gave his time to such groups as the Good Neighbor
 Settlement House, the Esperanza Home for Boys, Big Brothers Big
 Sisters, and the West Brownsville Lions Club; and
 WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife of 42 years, Elizabeth
 Medrano, raised two children together, Marisa and David, and they
 were blessed with a grandson, Noah; a devout Christian who
 practiced his faith in his daily life, he was a member of First
 Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon; and
 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
 gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
 counsel will not be forgotten; and
 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
 his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Alberto Medrano; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Alberto Medrano.
