                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 276
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Texas Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs for its
 exceptional work in helping young citizens realize their full
 potential; and
 WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs provide services to more than
 360,000 school-aged children residing in more than 180
 communities across the state; leaders in these clubs stress
 character and leadership development, education and career
 advancement, and health and life skills; and
 WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs throughout Texas offer a wide
 range of activities, from promoting the arts to providing sports,
 fitness, and recreation programs; these activities play an
 important role in helping young people reach the goals of
 academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and
 citizenship; and
 WHEREAS, Each year, individual clubs select finalists to
 compete for the title of the Texas State Youth of the Year and the
 Texas Military Youth of the Year; the winner of each will go on to
 represent the state in the National Youth of the Year and the
 National Military Youth of the Year competitions; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, Boys and Girls Clubs have
 encouraged young people to aspire to achieve the highest level of
 personal development and to become good citizens who are involved
 in their communities; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Alliance of Boys and Girls
 Clubs on its many contributions to the advancement of young
 Texans and extend to its members best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 this exemplary organization as an expression of esteem from the
 Texas Senate.
