11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 302
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 welcome the delegation from Tarrant County and join in the
44 celebration of Tarrant County Days at the State Capitol on
55 March 1 and 2, 2017; and
66 WHEREAS, Named for General Edward H. Tarrant of the
77 Republic of Texas Militia, Tarrant County was created in 1849 as
88 one of 26 counties formed from the original Peters Colony, and
99 its county seat is Fort Worth; and
1010 WHEREAS, Over the years, Tarrant County has evolved from a
1111 frontier community into a modern center for business, education,
1212 and world-class culture; the 2010 census recorded 1,809,034
1313 residents in Tarrant County, making it the third most populous
1414 county in Texas and the 16th most populous county in the nation;
1515 the county is home to 20 outstanding public school districts; and
1616 WHEREAS, Tarrant County is a cultural hub in North Texas
1717 that is known for such award-winning museums as the Kimbell Art
1818 Museum and the Amon G. Carter Museum, which showcase outstanding
1919 collections of classic and American art; an array of family
2020 entertainment destinations and tourist attractions, such as Six
2121 Flags Over Texas, the Fort Worth Zoo, and the AT&T Stadium draw
2222 visitors from around the world; other area attractions include
2323 historic downtown Grapevine, the shops at Grapevine Mills,
2424 Southlake Town Square, Sundance Square, and the Fort Worth
2525 Stockyards; and
2626 WHEREAS, The county's diverse and prosperous business
2727 community ranges from cattle ranching to small businesses to
2828 multinational corporations and includes leaders in the defense,
2929 aerospace, and transportation industries; Dallas-Fort Worth
3030 International Airport, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort
3131 Worth, and the Fort Worth Alliance Airport all contribute to the
3232 regional and state economy; and
3333 WHEREAS, Tarrant County is also home to many excellent
3434 institutions of higher education, which provide opportunities
3535 for a variety of students and produce a highly educated
3636 workforce; these institutions include The University of Texas at
3737 Arlington, the University of North Texas Health Science Center at
3838 Fort Worth, Texas Christian University, Tarrant County College,
3939 the College of Saint Thomas More, Arlington Baptist College,
4040 Trinity Valley Baptist Seminary and College, Tarleton State
4141 University--Fort Worth, and Texas Wesleyan University; and
4242 WHEREAS, The visiting Tarrant County delegation of civic,
4343 academic, and business leaders is headed by County Judge B. Glen
4444 Whitley and County Commissioners Roy C. Brooks, Andy H. Nguyen,
4545 Gary Fickes, and J. D. Johnson; and
4646 WHEREAS, The people of Tarrant County have worked hard to
4747 build and sustain their vibrant community, and they can be justly
4848 proud of their rich history, their many achievements, and their
4949 enduring public spirit; now, therefore, be it
5050 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
5151 Legislature, hereby recognize March 1 and 2, 2017, as Tarrant
5252 County Days at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
5353 delegation sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable
5454 visit to Austin; and, be it further
5555 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
5656 honor of this special occasion.
