                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 302
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 welcome the delegation from Tarrant County and join in the
 celebration of Tarrant County Days at the State Capitol on
 March 1 and 2, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, Named for General Edward H. Tarrant of the
 Republic of Texas Militia, Tarrant County was created in 1849 as
 one of 26 counties formed from the original Peters Colony, and
 its county seat is Fort Worth; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, Tarrant County has evolved from a
 frontier community into a modern center for business, education,
 and world-class culture; the 2010 census recorded 1,809,034
 residents in Tarrant County, making it the third most populous
 county in Texas and the 16th most populous county in the nation;
 the county is home to 20 outstanding public school districts; and
 WHEREAS, Tarrant County is a cultural hub in North Texas
 that is known for such award-winning museums as the Kimbell Art
 Museum and the Amon G. Carter Museum, which showcase outstanding
 collections of classic and American art; an array of family
 entertainment destinations and tourist attractions, such as Six
 Flags Over Texas, the Fort Worth Zoo, and the AT&T Stadium draw
 visitors from around the world; other area attractions include
 historic downtown Grapevine, the shops at Grapevine Mills,
 Southlake Town Square, Sundance Square, and the Fort Worth
 Stockyards; and
 WHEREAS, The county's diverse and prosperous business
 community ranges from cattle ranching to small businesses to
 multinational corporations and includes leaders in the defense,
 aerospace, and transportation industries; Dallas-Fort Worth
 International Airport, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort
 Worth, and the Fort Worth Alliance Airport all contribute to the
 regional and state economy; and
 WHEREAS, Tarrant County is also home to many excellent
 institutions of higher education, which provide opportunities
 for a variety of students and produce a highly educated
 workforce; these institutions include The University of Texas at
 Arlington, the University of North Texas Health Science Center at
 Fort Worth, Texas Christian University, Tarrant County College,
 the College of Saint Thomas More, Arlington Baptist College,
 Trinity Valley Baptist Seminary and College, Tarleton State
 University--Fort Worth, and Texas Wesleyan University; and
 WHEREAS, The visiting Tarrant County delegation of civic,
 academic, and business leaders is headed by County Judge B. Glen
 Whitley and County Commissioners Roy C. Brooks, Andy H. Nguyen,
 Gary Fickes, and J. D. Johnson; and
 WHEREAS, The people of Tarrant County have worked hard to
 build and sustain their vibrant community, and they can be justly
 proud of their rich history, their many achievements, and their
 enduring public spirit; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby recognize March 1 and 2, 2017, as Tarrant
 County Days at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
 delegation sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable
 visit to Austin; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of this special occasion.
