| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | recognize Officer Armando Perez of the Austin Police Department, |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | who was named the recipient of a Star of Texas Award; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Star of Texas Awards honor peace officers, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | firefighters, and emergency medical first responders who are |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | seriously injured or killed while serving in the line of duty; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, On April 3, 2016, Officer Perez was attempting to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | apprehend a burglary suspect at an apartment complex in Austin; |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | during the subsequent contact and confrontation, he was severely |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | injured when he was shot below his body armor in the lower |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | abdomen; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Despite receiving a critical gunshot wound, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Officer Perez courageously drew his service weapon and was able |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to return fire and kill the suspect; Officer Perez was |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | transported to a local hospital where he recovered from the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | potentially life-threatening injuries; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Officer Perez demonstrated courage and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | determination while carrying out his duties; he suffered great |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | hardship in the process and in the aftermath, and he is truly |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby commend Officer Armando Perez on his bravery |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and dedication to duty and extend congratulations to him on being |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | honored with a Star of Texas Award; and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | him as an expression of high esteem from the Texas Senate. |
