                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 33
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Officer Armando Perez of the Austin Police Department,
 who was named the recipient of a Star of Texas Award; and
 WHEREAS, The Star of Texas Awards honor peace officers,
 firefighters, and emergency medical first responders who are
 seriously injured or killed while serving in the line of duty; and
 WHEREAS, On April 3, 2016, Officer Perez was attempting to
 apprehend a burglary suspect at an apartment complex in Austin;
 during the subsequent contact and confrontation, he was severely
 injured when he was shot below his body armor in the lower
 abdomen; and
 WHEREAS, Despite receiving a critical gunshot wound,
 Officer Perez courageously drew his service weapon and was able
 to return fire and kill the suspect; Officer Perez was
 transported to a local hospital where he recovered from the
 potentially life-threatening injuries; and
 WHEREAS, Officer Perez demonstrated courage and
 determination while carrying out his duties; he suffered great
 hardship in the process and in the aftermath, and he is truly
 deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend Officer Armando Perez on his bravery
 and dedication to duty and extend congratulations to him on being
 honored with a Star of Texas Award; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of high esteem from the Texas Senate.
