| 4 | 4 | | Program and March 13, 2017, as Girl Scout Legislative Day; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of what |

| 6 | 6 | | has become the largest entrepreneurial training program for |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | girls in the world, the Girl Scout Cookie Program; the first |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | known sale of cookies by Girl Scouts occurred in 1917, when the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, baked cookies and sold |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | them in a high school cafeteria as a service project; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches young women |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | five essential entrepreneurial skills; Girl Scouts learn about |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and business ethics; in keeping with the Girl Scout mission of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | preparing girls for the future, the program has launched Digital |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Cookie, an online initiative through which girls learn such |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | modern technological skills as e-marketing, digital money |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | management, and online dashboard usage; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Over the last 100 years, proceeds from the sale of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Girl Scout cookies have gone to support a wide range of worthy |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | causes, while helping girls learn valuable business techniques |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | that will be useful as they face the challenges of an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | ever-changing society; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Girl Scout cookies have become an important part of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | fabric of life in communities across the nation, and it is truly fitting |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | that this exceptional tradition receive special recognition; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, As part of Girl Scout Legislative Day, the Girl |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Scouts of Texas have stated that all of the woman senators in the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Texas Senate be considered members of the special Girl Scout |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Honorary Troop 1920, which is named in tribute to the year women |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | were granted the right to vote; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |

| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the Girl Scouts on the 100th |

| 34 | 34 | | year of the Girl Scout Cookie Program and extend best wishes to |

| 35 | 35 | | all for a memorable Girl Scout Legislative Day; and, be it further |
