                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 408
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 join Texans across the state in celebrating the Girl Scout Cookie
 Program and March 13, 2017, as Girl Scout Legislative Day; and
 WHEREAS, The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of what
 has become the largest entrepreneurial training program for
 girls in the world, the Girl Scout Cookie Program; the first
 known sale of cookies by Girl Scouts occurred in 1917, when the
 Mistletoe Troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, baked cookies and sold
 them in a high school cafeteria as a service project; and
 WHEREAS, The Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches young women
 five essential entrepreneurial skills; Girl Scouts learn about
 goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills,
 and business ethics; in keeping with the Girl Scout mission of
 preparing girls for the future, the program has launched Digital
 Cookie, an online initiative through which girls learn such
 modern technological skills as e-marketing, digital money
 management, and online dashboard usage; and
 WHEREAS, Over the last 100 years, proceeds from the sale of
 Girl Scout cookies have gone to support a wide range of worthy
 causes, while helping girls learn valuable business techniques
 that will be useful as they face the challenges of an
 ever-changing society; and
 WHEREAS, Girl Scout cookies have become an important part of the
 fabric of life in communities across the nation, and it is truly fitting
 that this exceptional tradition receive special recognition; and
 WHEREAS, As part of Girl Scout Legislative Day, the Girl
 Scouts of Texas have stated that all of the woman senators in the
 Texas Senate be considered members of the special Girl Scout
 Honorary Troop 1920, which is named in tribute to the year women
 were granted the right to vote; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby congratulate the Girl Scouts on the 100th
 year of the Girl Scout Cookie Program and extend best wishes to
 all for a memorable Girl Scout Legislative Day; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of this special occasion.
