| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Sachse are gathering in Austin |

| 3 | 3 | | on February 22, 2017, to celebrate Sachse Day at the State |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Situated in far northeastern Dallas County and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | southern Collin County, the settlement was formed in 1886, when |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | William C. Sachse donated land to the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Fe Railway; the town received a post office that same year, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | registered under the name Saxie, which was changed to Sachse in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1892; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The first Sachse school was constructed in the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | early 1900s, and the building doubled as the city hall and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | church; economic development continued and the population grew |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | steadily after 1940, and Sachse's historic schools joined the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Garland Independent School District in a partnership that |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | continues to provide young Texans with quality educational |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | opportunities; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, By the 1980s, Sachse had developed into a suburb |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of Garland, and residents today enjoy the numerous amenities |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | offered by the nearby city, including the Firewheel Town Center; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | moreover, because of its proximity to the President George Bush |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Turnpike, Sachse has remained an important transportation and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | business center; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Honoring their heritage as they work to build an |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | even brighter future, the citizens of Sachse may take great pride |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | in the enduring role their community has played in the story of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the Lone Star State, and they are indeed deserving of special |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 22, 2017, as Sachse Day at |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin. |
