SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 449 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Sachse are gathering in Austin on February 22, 2017, to celebrate Sachse Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, Situated in far northeastern Dallas County and southern Collin County, the settlement was formed in 1886, when William C. Sachse donated land to the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railway; the town received a post office that same year, registered under the name Saxie, which was changed to Sachse in 1892; and WHEREAS, The first Sachse school was constructed in the early 1900s, and the building doubled as the city hall and church; economic development continued and the population grew steadily after 1940, and Sachse's historic schools joined the Garland Independent School District in a partnership that continues to provide young Texans with quality educational opportunities; and WHEREAS, By the 1980s, Sachse had developed into a suburb of Garland, and residents today enjoy the numerous amenities offered by the nearby city, including the Firewheel Town Center; moreover, because of its proximity to the President George Bush Turnpike, Sachse has remained an important transportation and business center; and WHEREAS, Honoring their heritage as they work to build an even brighter future, the citizens of Sachse may take great pride in the enduring role their community has played in the story of the Lone Star State, and they are indeed deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby recognize February 22, 2017, as Sachse Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin.
