                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 450
 In Memory
 of
 Rudolph P. Miller Jr.
 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
 memories of Dr. Rudolph P. Miller Jr. of Plano, who died on
 February 3, 2017, at the age of 90; and
 WHEREAS, Rudy Miller was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
 to Rudolph P. Miller Sr. and Alice Rose Scott Smithson Miller; an
 Eagle Scout as a boy, he answered his nation's call to duty during
 World War II and bravely served with the United States Marine Corps
 in the Pacific theater, earning a Purple Heart for his service in
 the battle for Okinawa; and
 WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Miller earned a bachelor's
 degree from Millersville University, a master's degree from
 Temple University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh,
 and he then embarked on a long and successful career as an
 educator; initially serving as a public school teacher and
 administrator, he went on to distinguish himself on the faculties
 of Ohio University and the University of Memphis, and he retired
 as a professor emeritus from East Tennessee State University,
 where a former student endowed a scholarship in his and another
 faculty member's honor; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Miller was married to Iris Troutman Miller
 for 65 years, and he was the proud father of two children, Pam and
 Scott; later in life, he was blessed with three grandchildren,
 Katie, Ashlee, and Chris, and three great-grandchildren, Dylan,
 Addison, and Abigail; in retirement in Plano, he was active with
 the YMCA and a valued member of Saint Andrew United Methodist
 Church; and
 WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect
 of one person's life, some individuals leave their unmistakable
 mark on the world as they move through it, and Rudy Miller's
 contributions will long resonate in the lives of all who knew
 him; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Rudolph
 P. Miller Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and
 many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
 so in memory of Rudy Miller.
