| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Barton Middle School and Dr. T. C. McCormick Jr. Middle |

| 4 | 4 | | School on their success in Learning Ally's 2017 Great Reading |

| 5 | 5 | | Games competition; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Learning Ally is a nonprofit organization that |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | provides learning materials to students with print disabilities, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and it has sponsored the Great Reading Games since 2014; this |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | exemplary program gives students with reading difficulties an |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | opportunity to be recognized for their efforts and to improve |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | their reading success; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Barton Middle School and Dr. T. C. McCormick |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Jr. Middle School are in the Hays Consolidated Independent |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | School District; they have both been ranked among the top 10 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | schools nationwide in this prestigious competition; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In the 2017 contest, students read more than 5.3 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | million pages combined, a significant increase from the year |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | before; as a result of their participation, students tend to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | substantially extend the amount of time they spend reading and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | are motivated to read above their grade level; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The people of Hays County are proud of the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | students at Barton Middle School and Dr. T. C. McCormick |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Jr. Middle School for their hard work and perseverance as |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | participants in this acclaimed competition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and staff of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Barton Middle School and Dr. T. C. McCormick Jr. Middle School on |

| 28 | 28 | | their commitment to excellence in education and extend |

| 29 | 29 | | congratulations to them on their success in the 2017 Learning |
