11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 475
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Daniel Breeden Elementary School on its success in
44 Learning Ally's Great Reading Games competition; and
55 WHEREAS, Learning Ally is a nonprofit organization that
66 provides learning materials to students with print disabilities,
77 and it has sponsored the Great Reading Games since 2014; this
88 exemplary program gives students an opportunity to be recognized
99 for their efforts and to improve their reading success; and
1010 WHEREAS, Daniel Breeden Elementary School is a member of
1111 the Brownsville Independent School District in Cameron County;
1212 it has been ranked in the top 10 among thousands of schools across
1313 the nation that participated in the 2017 competition; and
1414 WHEREAS, Students across the country completed more than
1515 5.3 million pages in the competition, a significant increase from
1616 the year before; participants in the program tend to greatly
1717 increase the amount of time they spend reading and to read above
1818 their grade level; and
1919 WHEREAS, The people of Brownsville and Cameron County are
2020 proud of the students at Daniel Breeden Elementary School for
2121 their hard work and perseverance in this prominent competition;
2222 now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
2424 Legislature, hereby commend the students of Daniel Breeden
2525 Elementary School on their achievements and the faculty and staff
2626 on their commitment to excellence in education and extend
2727 congratulations to all on their success in the Great Reading
2828 Games; and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3030 the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
