| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Daniel Breeden Elementary School on its success in |

| 4 | 4 | | Learning Ally's Great Reading Games competition; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Learning Ally is a nonprofit organization that |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | provides learning materials to students with print disabilities, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and it has sponsored the Great Reading Games since 2014; this |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | exemplary program gives students an opportunity to be recognized |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | for their efforts and to improve their reading success; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Daniel Breeden Elementary School is a member of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the Brownsville Independent School District in Cameron County; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | it has been ranked in the top 10 among thousands of schools across |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the nation that participated in the 2017 competition; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Students across the country completed more than |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 5.3 million pages in the competition, a significant increase from |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the year before; participants in the program tend to greatly |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | increase the amount of time they spend reading and to read above |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | their grade level; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The people of Brownsville and Cameron County are |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | proud of the students at Daniel Breeden Elementary School for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | their hard work and perseverance in this prominent competition; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend the students of Daniel Breeden |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Elementary School on their achievements and the faculty and staff |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | on their commitment to excellence in education and extend |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | congratulations to all on their success in the Great Reading |
|---|
