SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 475 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Daniel Breeden Elementary School on its success in Learning Ally's Great Reading Games competition; and WHEREAS, Learning Ally is a nonprofit organization that provides learning materials to students with print disabilities, and it has sponsored the Great Reading Games since 2014; this exemplary program gives students an opportunity to be recognized for their efforts and to improve their reading success; and WHEREAS, Daniel Breeden Elementary School is a member of the Brownsville Independent School District in Cameron County; it has been ranked in the top 10 among thousands of schools across the nation that participated in the 2017 competition; and WHEREAS, Students across the country completed more than 5.3 million pages in the competition, a significant increase from the year before; participants in the program tend to greatly increase the amount of time they spend reading and to read above their grade level; and WHEREAS, The people of Brownsville and Cameron County are proud of the students at Daniel Breeden Elementary School for their hard work and perseverance in this prominent competition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend the students of Daniel Breeden Elementary School on their achievements and the faculty and staff on their commitment to excellence in education and extend congratulations to all on their success in the Great Reading Games; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
