2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Master Sergeant Blaine Scott, United States Marine |
---|
4 | 4 | | Corps, Retired, and his family on the occasion of the |
---|
5 | 5 | | groundbreaking for a new home to be built by the organization |
---|
6 | 6 | | Helping a Hero; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Helping a Hero is a nonprofit organization that |
---|
8 | 8 | | builds specially adapted homes for severely wounded service |
---|
9 | 9 | | members injured in Iraq and Afghanistan; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Scott grew up in Iowa and joined |
---|
11 | 11 | | the United States Marine Corps in 1992; he served multiple |
---|
12 | 12 | | overseas deployments before becoming an instructor at the |
---|
13 | 13 | | Mountain Warfare Training Center in California, where he taught |
---|
14 | 14 | | thousands of young men and women the skills they would need in |
---|
15 | 15 | | order to operate successfully and survive in mountainous |
---|
16 | 16 | | terrain; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 2004, he transferred to the 3rd Light Armored |
---|
18 | 18 | | Reconnaissance Battalion and was deployed in support of |
---|
19 | 19 | | Operation Iraqi Freedom; during his second deployment to Iraq, he |
---|
20 | 20 | | was severely injured in an improvised explosive device blast; |
---|
21 | 21 | | after his recovery, he went on to serve with the I Marine |
---|
22 | 22 | | Expeditionary Forces in Afghanistan before completing his |
---|
23 | 23 | | military service with Wounded Warrior Battalion-East at San |
---|
24 | 24 | | Antonio Military Medical Center; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, After his retirement, Master Sergeant Scott and |
---|
26 | 26 | | his family continued to serve by offering their home as a place |
---|
27 | 27 | | for wounded warriors to recover; Helping a Hero, along with |
---|
28 | 28 | | Vintage Estate Homes, has designed a beautiful four-bedroom, |
---|
29 | 29 | | three-bath home that will enable the family to continue its |
---|
30 | 30 | | compassionate work in caring for warriors in crisis; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, In addition to helping wounded warriors, the |
---|
32 | 32 | | Scott family actively supports antibullying initiatives and the |
---|
33 | 33 | | passage of David's Law to strengthen antibullying laws in Texas; |
---|
34 | 34 | | the family has taken up this cause in loving memory of their |
---|
35 | 35 | | daughter Isabella, who died at the age of 12; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby commend Master Sergeant Blaine Scott and his |
---|
38 | 38 | | family on their exceptional service and extend to them heartfelt |
---|
39 | 39 | | wishes for continued success in their worthy endeavors; and, be |
---|
40 | 40 | | it further |

41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
