                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 484
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Master Sergeant Blaine Scott, United States Marine
 Corps, Retired, and his family on the occasion of the
 groundbreaking for a new home to be built by the organization
 Helping a Hero; and
 WHEREAS, Helping a Hero is a nonprofit organization that
 builds specially adapted homes for severely wounded service
 members injured in Iraq and Afghanistan; and
 WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Scott grew up in Iowa and joined
 the United States Marine Corps in 1992; he served multiple
 overseas deployments before becoming an instructor at the
 Mountain Warfare Training Center in California, where he taught
 thousands of young men and women the skills they would need in
 order to operate successfully and survive in mountainous
 terrain; and
 WHEREAS, In 2004, he transferred to the 3rd Light Armored
 Reconnaissance Battalion and was deployed in support of
 Operation Iraqi Freedom; during his second deployment to Iraq, he
 was severely injured in an improvised explosive device blast;
 after his recovery, he went on to serve with the I Marine
 Expeditionary Forces in Afghanistan before completing his
 military service with Wounded Warrior Battalion-East at San
 Antonio Military Medical Center; and
 WHEREAS, After his retirement, Master Sergeant Scott and
 his family continued to serve by offering their home as a place
 for wounded warriors to recover; Helping a Hero, along with
 Vintage Estate Homes, has designed a beautiful four-bedroom,
 three-bath home that will enable the family to continue its
 compassionate work in caring for warriors in crisis; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to helping wounded warriors, the
 Scott family actively supports antibullying initiatives and the
 passage of David's Law to strengthen antibullying laws in Texas;
 the family has taken up this cause in loving memory of their
 daughter Isabella, who died at the age of 12; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend Master Sergeant Blaine Scott and his
 family on their exceptional service and extend to them heartfelt
 wishes for continued success in their worthy endeavors; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 them as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
