| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Lynn Burton, who is retiring as superintendent of the |

| 4 | 4 | | Orange Grove Independent School District on June 30, 2017, after |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | 40 years of distinguished service in the education profession; |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Burton joined the Orange Grove Independent |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | School District in 2009; under his outstanding leadership, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | district received its best accountability ratings since 2003 and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | earned its first perfect score in the School Financial Integrity |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Rating System of Texas; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Diligent and resourceful, he developed and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | implemented Exemplary Now and Later, a system for achieving |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | academic excellence; he also developed a fiscal systems |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | framework called Financial Planning for Success, and he played a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | leading role in the district's receiving an A+ rating from |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Standard and Poor's; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, He was named the 2015 Superintendent of the Year |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | for Region 2 by the Texas Association of School Boards and has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | held numerous leadership positions with the Texas Association of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | School Administrators; he has been active in a wide range of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | community organizations, including the Lions Club, the Rotary |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Club, the United Way, and Junior Achievement; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary administrator and educator, he is |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | respected and admired by colleagues and students alike, and his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | presence at the Orange Grove Independent School District will be |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Lynn Burton on his commitment to |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | excellence in education and extend to him best wishes for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
