SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 508 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Lynn Burton, who is retiring as superintendent of the Orange Grove Independent School District on June 30, 2017, after 40 years of distinguished service in the education profession; and WHEREAS, Lynn Burton joined the Orange Grove Independent School District in 2009; under his outstanding leadership, the district received its best accountability ratings since 2003 and earned its first perfect score in the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas; and WHEREAS, Diligent and resourceful, he developed and implemented Exemplary Now and Later, a system for achieving academic excellence; he also developed a fiscal systems framework called Financial Planning for Success, and he played a leading role in the district's receiving an A+ rating from Standard and Poor's; and WHEREAS, He was named the 2015 Superintendent of the Year for Region 2 by the Texas Association of School Boards and has held numerous leadership positions with the Texas Association of School Administrators; he has been active in a wide range of community organizations, including the Lions Club, the Rotary Club, the United Way, and Junior Achievement; and WHEREAS, An exemplary administrator and educator, he is respected and admired by colleagues and students alike, and his presence at the Orange Grove Independent School District will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Lynn Burton on his commitment to excellence in education and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
