| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the 25-year members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, |

| 4 | 4 | | Incorporated, who are being honored by the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter |

| 5 | 5 | | at its 2017 Founders' Day Luncheon on February 4; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was established at |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Howard University in 1908; through programs of service, the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | sorority has long worked to encourage young women to develop high |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | standards of character and to strive for excellence in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | educational achievement; the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter annually |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | recognizes long-standing members of the sorority at its |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Founders' Day Luncheon; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Silver Sorors being honored by the Alpha Xi Omega |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Chapter for 25 years of service are Thomasetta Blount, Eleita |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Brew, Chrisdya Houston, Barbara Jones-Cash, Barbara Lewis, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Leticia McGowan, Ramona Powers, and Cynthia Toles; over the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | years, they have remained loyal Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | members and have served as mentors and role models to countless |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | sisters; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, These outstanding women are truly deserving of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | recognition for their longtime membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Sorority and for the important role they have played in helping |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the sorority to fulfill its mission of encouraging high |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | scholastic and ethical standards, promoting unity and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | friendship, addressing the concerns of girls and young women, and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | being of service to all mankind; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Silver Sorors on their 25 years |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of service to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and on their many |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | achievements and extend to them best wishes in all their future |

| 31 | 31 | | endeavors; and, be it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
