SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 52
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the 25-year members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated, who are being honored by the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter
at its 2017 Founders' Day Luncheon on February 4; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was established at
Howard University in 1908; through programs of service, the
sorority has long worked to encourage young women to develop high
standards of character and to strive for excellence in
educational achievement; the Alpha Xi Omega Chapter annually
recognizes long-standing members of the sorority at its
Founders' Day Luncheon; and
WHEREAS, Silver Sorors being honored by the Alpha Xi Omega
Chapter for 25 years of service are Thomasetta Blount, Eleita
Brew, Chrisdya Houston, Barbara Jones-Cash, Barbara Lewis,
Leticia McGowan, Ramona Powers, and Cynthia Toles; over the
years, they have remained loyal Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
members and have served as mentors and role models to countless
sisters; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding women are truly deserving of
recognition for their longtime membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority and for the important role they have played in helping
the sorority to fulfill its mission of encouraging high
scholastic and ethical standards, promoting unity and
friendship, addressing the concerns of girls and young women, and
being of service to all mankind; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend the Silver Sorors on their 25 years
of service to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and on their many
achievements and extend to them best wishes in all their future
endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
