4	4	Ivan Wayne Schmedemann
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of Ivan Wayne "Doc" Schmedemann, who died
7	7	March 18, 2017, at the age of 87; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Ivan Schmedemann was born on March 16, 1930, in
9	9	Geary County, Kansas; he attended Geary County elementary schools,
10	10	and he graduated from Junction City High School in 1948; and
11	11	WHEREAS, Ivan earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural
12	12	economics from Kansas State College in 1952, and he then served
13	13	with distinction for two years as a lieutenant in the United
14	14	States Army; after his service, he returned to his alma mater,
15	15	where he earned a master's degree in 1957; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Doc Schmedemann earned his doctoral degree in
17	17	agricultural economics from Texas A&M University in 1966; he
18	18	became a professor at the university and developed the master of
19	19	land economics and real estate program, and over the course of
20	20	his exemplary career, he received numerous accolades for his many
21	21	contributions to the school and to the real estate profession; he
22	22	was highly respected by his students and colleagues, and in 2004,
23	23	he received a Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award from the
24	24	American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Above all things, Doc cherished his family; he
26	26	shared 60 years of marriage with Luanne Schmedemann, and he was
27	27	blessed with one son and two grandchildren who were a source of
28	28	great pride and joy; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Doc Schmedemann was a distinguished member of the
30	30	community who enriched the lives of others with his wisdom, his
31	31	warmth, and his valued counsel; he leaves behind memories that
32	32	will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in his
33	33	life; now, therefore, be it
34	34	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
35	35	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
36	36	family of Ivan Wayne Schmedemann; and, be it further
37	37	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
38	38	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
39	39	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
40	40	memory of Ivan Schmedemann.
