                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 520
 In Memory
 of
 Ivan Wayne Schmedemann
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Ivan Wayne "Doc" Schmedemann, who died
 March 18, 2017, at the age of 87; and
 WHEREAS, Ivan Schmedemann was born on March 16, 1930, in
 Geary County, Kansas; he attended Geary County elementary schools,
 and he graduated from Junction City High School in 1948; and
 WHEREAS, Ivan earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural
 economics from Kansas State College in 1952, and he then served
 with distinction for two years as a lieutenant in the United
 States Army; after his service, he returned to his alma mater,
 where he earned a master's degree in 1957; and
 WHEREAS, Doc Schmedemann earned his doctoral degree in
 agricultural economics from Texas A&M University in 1966; he
 became a professor at the university and developed the master of
 land economics and real estate program, and over the course of
 his exemplary career, he received numerous accolades for his many
 contributions to the school and to the real estate profession; he
 was highly respected by his students and colleagues, and in 2004,
 he received a Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award from the
 American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers; and
 WHEREAS, Above all things, Doc cherished his family; he
 shared 60 years of marriage with Luanne Schmedemann, and he was
 blessed with one son and two grandchildren who were a source of
 great pride and joy; and
 WHEREAS, Doc Schmedemann was a distinguished member of the
 community who enriched the lives of others with his wisdom, his
 warmth, and his valued counsel; he leaves behind memories that
 will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in his
 life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Ivan Wayne Schmedemann; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Ivan Schmedemann.
