| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Mayor Sylvester Turner, who is being honored with a |

| 4 | 4 | | Political Award from the Acres Home Chamber for Business and |

| 5 | 5 | | Economic Development, Incorporated, at its 28th annual Awards |

| 6 | 6 | | Banquet on March 31, 2017; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The Acres Home Chamber for Business and Economic |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Development was founded in 1994 to promote the economic vitality |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | of the Acres Homes community; the nonprofit organization provides a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | variety of programs, seminars, workshops, and professional |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | development opportunities to the community with the goal of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | helping individuals, small businesses, and entrepreneurs |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | continue on paths to success; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the organization hosts an awards |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | banquet to honor area citizens who deserve recognition for their |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | exceptional work on behalf of the community; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Sylvester Turner is a beloved Houstonian |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | who was born and raised in the Acres Homes community; in addition |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | to serving as Houston's mayor, he has championed a number of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | issues on behalf of his community and the state as a member of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Texas House of Representatives; during his 26 years as a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | legislator, Mr. Turner has gained widespread recognition for his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | uncompromising values and his insight and effectiveness as a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | lawmaker; he was responsible for making the state's Employee |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Retirement System actuarially sound and for the extension of the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | LITE-UP Texas program; he was named one of the state's Ten Best |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislators by Texas Monthly; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A truly exemplary citizen, Mayor Turner represents |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the highest ideals of civic engagement, and he can indeed take |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | pride in his outstanding public service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby commend Sylvester Turner for his exceptional |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | leadership as mayor of Houston and as a state legislator and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | congratulate him on receiving a Political Award from the Acres |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Home Chamber for Business and Economic Development; and, be it |
