SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 525
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Mayor Sylvester Turner, who is being honored with a
Political Award from the Acres Home Chamber for Business and
Economic Development, Incorporated, at its 28th annual Awards
Banquet on March 31, 2017; and
WHEREAS, The Acres Home Chamber for Business and Economic
Development was founded in 1994 to promote the economic vitality
of the Acres Homes community; the nonprofit organization provides a
variety of programs, seminars, workshops, and professional
development opportunities to the community with the goal of
helping individuals, small businesses, and entrepreneurs
continue on paths to success; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the organization hosts an awards
banquet to honor area citizens who deserve recognition for their
exceptional work on behalf of the community; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Sylvester Turner is a beloved Houstonian
who was born and raised in the Acres Homes community; in addition
to serving as Houston's mayor, he has championed a number of
issues on behalf of his community and the state as a member of the
Texas House of Representatives; during his 26 years as a
legislator, Mr. Turner has gained widespread recognition for his
uncompromising values and his insight and effectiveness as a
lawmaker; he was responsible for making the state's Employee
Retirement System actuarially sound and for the extension of the
LITE-UP Texas program; he was named one of the state's Ten Best
Legislators by Texas Monthly; and
WHEREAS, A truly exemplary citizen, Mayor Turner represents
the highest ideals of civic engagement, and he can indeed take
pride in his outstanding public service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend Sylvester Turner for his exceptional
leadership as mayor of Houston and as a state legislator and
congratulate him on receiving a Political Award from the Acres
Home Chamber for Business and Economic Development; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
