SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 530 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join Texans and veterans across the state in celebrating the third anniversary of the dedication of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument; and WHEREAS, The Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument was dedicated on March 29, 2014, before a crowd of nearly 5,000 citizens, veterans, and Texas leaders; its construction was made possible by the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 36 during the 79th Legislative Session and by the hard work and dedication of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument Committee; and WHEREAS, Situated on the Capitol's northeast lawn, this impressive monument pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of the thousands of Texans who served the country in Vietnam; more than 3,400 Texans made the ultimate sacrifice in the war and more than 100 are still listed as missing in action; 17 Texans received the Medal of Honor for their distinguished bravery and service above and beyond the call of duty; and WHEREAS, The Vietnam War was one of the longest armed conflicts in American history, and the Texans who fought in battles at Pleiku, Ia Drang, Bien Hoa, Khe Sanh, and other notable engagements have taken their place among the long line of courageous men and women who have left a lasting mark on the world; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend all those who contributed to the planning and dedication of the Texas Capitol Vietnam Veterans Monument and pay tribute to the Texans who served in the Vietnam War; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of the third anniversary of the monument's dedication.
