1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 545
2	2	WHEREAS, The observance of National Child Abuse Prevention
3	3	Month in April 2017 serves as a reminder of our shared
4	4	responsibility for protecting and nurturing those most
5	5	vulnerable among us; and
6	6	WHEREAS, National Child Abuse Prevention Month was
7	7	established in April 1983, and in the years since, government
8	8	agencies and advocacy groups have dedicated this month to
9	9	promoting initiatives that help target and stop abuse; and
10	10	WHEREAS, According to the Children's Advocacy Centers of
11	11	Texas, 185 young Texans suffer from maltreatment each day; taking
12	12	many forms, including neglect and physical, sexual, or emotional
13	13	abuse, these tragic occurrences too often cut short the lives of
14	14	their victims or produce scars, both visible and unseen, that can
15	15	last a lifetime; and
16	16	WHEREAS, To help combat this injustice in our communities,
17	17	organizations at the local, state, and national levels have
18	18	sponsored programs that provide educational resources, assist
19	19	families, and foster healthy parenting practices; and
20	20	WHEREAS, Public awareness is one of the most important
21	21	tools in the fight to end child abuse and neglect; in observing
22	22	National Child Abuse Prevention Month, citizens of the Lone Star
23	23	State are taking a vital step toward ensuring that future
24	24	generations of Texans receive every opportunity to realize their
25	25	fullest potential; now, therefore, be it
26	26	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
27	27	Legislature, hereby recognize April 2017 as Child Abuse
28	28	Prevention Month and call on all citizens to work together to
29	29	protect the welfare of children throughout the state and beyond.
