SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 545
WHEREAS, The observance of National Child Abuse Prevention
Month in April 2017 serves as a reminder of our shared
responsibility for protecting and nurturing those most
vulnerable among us; and
WHEREAS, National Child Abuse Prevention Month was
established in April 1983, and in the years since, government
agencies and advocacy groups have dedicated this month to
promoting initiatives that help target and stop abuse; and
WHEREAS, According to the Children's Advocacy Centers of
Texas, 185 young Texans suffer from maltreatment each day; taking
many forms, including neglect and physical, sexual, or emotional
abuse, these tragic occurrences too often cut short the lives of
their victims or produce scars, both visible and unseen, that can
last a lifetime; and
WHEREAS, To help combat this injustice in our communities,
organizations at the local, state, and national levels have
sponsored programs that provide educational resources, assist
families, and foster healthy parenting practices; and
WHEREAS, Public awareness is one of the most important
tools in the fight to end child abuse and neglect; in observing
National Child Abuse Prevention Month, citizens of the Lone Star
State are taking a vital step toward ensuring that future
generations of Texans receive every opportunity to realize their
fullest potential; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby recognize April 2017 as Child Abuse
Prevention Month and call on all citizens to work together to
protect the welfare of children throughout the state and beyond.
