| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize John MacDonald, Matthew Harper, Chris Shelley, Brian |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Hammes, and Clark Channell of the Killeen Fire Department, who |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | were recently honored with the Director's Award from the Texas |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Department of Public Safety for saving the life of Trooper Ronald |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Slay; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, On September 8, 2016, Trooper Slay was driving |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | home after completing his physical training test when he felt |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | chest pains; thinking he simply needed a short rest, he stopped |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | at Killeen Fire Station Number 3; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The firefighters on duty recognized that his |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | condition was serious and determined that he was in fact having a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | heart attack; rendering emergency aid, they immediately secured |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | an ambulance to take him to Seton Medical Center Harker Heights; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, During the trip to the hospital, Trooper Slay's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | heart stopped beating twice, but he was revived both times; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Thanks to the prompt actions of these firefighters, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Trooper Slay received the critical care he needed to survive a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | serious medical emergency; they serve as an example of teamwork |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and excellence, and they bring great honor to the Killeen Fire |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Department; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend John MacDonald, Matthew Harper, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Chris Shelley, Brian Hammes, and Clark Channell on their quick |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | thinking and decisive action in saving the life of Trooper Ronald |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Slay; and, be it further |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
