                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 639
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize John MacDonald, Matthew Harper, Chris Shelley, Brian
 Hammes, and Clark Channell of the Killeen Fire Department, who
 were recently honored with the Director's Award from the Texas
 Department of Public Safety for saving the life of Trooper Ronald
 Slay; and
 WHEREAS, On September 8, 2016, Trooper Slay was driving
 home after completing his physical training test when he felt
 chest pains; thinking he simply needed a short rest, he stopped
 at Killeen Fire Station Number 3; and
 WHEREAS, The firefighters on duty recognized that his
 condition was serious and determined that he was in fact having a
 heart attack; rendering emergency aid, they immediately secured
 an ambulance to take him to Seton Medical Center Harker Heights; and
 WHEREAS, During the trip to the hospital, Trooper Slay's
 heart stopped beating twice, but he was revived both times; and
 WHEREAS, Thanks to the prompt actions of these firefighters,
 Trooper Slay received the critical care he needed to survive a
 serious medical emergency; they serve as an example of teamwork
 and excellence, and they bring great honor to the Killeen Fire
 Department; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend John MacDonald, Matthew Harper,
 Chris Shelley, Brian Hammes, and Clark Channell on their quick
 thinking and decisive action in saving the life of Trooper Ronald
 Slay; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 these men as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
