| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the City of Georgetown on the 20th anniversary of its |

| 4 | 4 | | designation as a Great American Main Street City; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In 1997, Georgetown became the first Texas city in |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | state history to be named a Great American Main Street City, the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | highest and most prestigious honor bestowed by the National Trust |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | for Historic Preservation's National Main Street Center; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Main Street program emphasizes the economic |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | development, organization, quality design, and promotion of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | downtown districts; Georgetown was honored for its dedication to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | maintaining a vital downtown business district despite the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | demands of rapid growth; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The City of Georgetown and Williamson County |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | governments invested heavily into the town center and into |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | revitalizing historic downtown buildings, and with the help of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | private contributions, the city was able to build a diversified |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and thriving central business district that continues to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | contribute to a robust local economy and a successful tourism |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | industry; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Georgetown's designation as a Great American Main |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Street City is a reflection of the vision, leadership, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | volunteer efforts of citizens and local administrators, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | their efforts to preserve the town's unique history and beauty |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | will continue to benefit residents and visitors for generations |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the citizens and civic leaders |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of Georgetown on the 20th anniversary of their city's designation |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | as a Great American Main Street City and extend to all best wishes |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
