4	4	Romeo L. Lomas
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of Romeo L. Lomas, a beloved civic leader,
7	7	who died April 6, 2017, at the age of 79; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Romeo Lomas was born on September 3, 1937, in
9	9	Kingsville, Texas; he was a man of wisdom, integrity, and
10	10	compassion, and he had a fulfilling life of service on behalf of
11	11	the citizens of Kleberg County as one of the county's
12	12	longest-serving politicians; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Mr. Lomas was a distinguished veteran of the
14	14	United States Army, and he served as a Kleberg County
15	15	commissioner for 38 years; as commissioner, he advocated for wage
16	16	increases and improvement of benefits for the county's public
17	17	employees, and he continually strived to increase opportunities
18	18	and support services for vulnerable residents; his many
19	19	accomplishments included playing an instrumental role in the
20	20	creation of the Kleberg County Human Services department and of a
21	21	senior center; and
22	22	WHEREAS, Mr. Lomas made it his lifelong mission to be a
23	23	voice for all the citizens of Kleberg County, and he was a
24	24	champion of the underserved members of the community he loved; he
25	25	retired as Kleberg County Commissioner on December 31, 2016, and
26	26	he continued to serve as a mentor for local residents and
27	27	community leaders; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Romeo Lomas was a devoted husband, father, and
29	29	grandfather and was beloved by many, and he will long be
30	30	remembered with respect and admiration by all who were privileged
31	31	to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
32	32	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
33	33	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
34	34	family of Romeo L. Lomas; and, be it further
35	35	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
36	36	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
37	37	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
38	38	memory of Romeo Lomas.
