| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band for its |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | outstanding achievements; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Oliveira Middle School is a campus of the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Brownsville Independent School District; the district has a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | number of instrumental music programs in which nearly 5,000 |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | students participate; the Oliveira Middle School's music program |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | has more than 500 of these students and continues to grow; the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | district is dedicated to providing its students with |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | opportunities to exercise their creativity, and hard work and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | creativity help students in all facets of their lives; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band is |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | noted for its success; it was recognized as a Class AA winner by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the Foundation for Music Education in the National Wind Band |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | honors contest; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The symphonic band competed against more than 230 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | bands from 36 states in receiving this prestigious honor, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | three members of the band were recognized as outstanding |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | soloists; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Under the exemplary direction of Gaspar Garcia, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the band members have become outstanding performers and have |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | developed exceptional levels of musicianship and discipline; it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | is truly fitting that the band receive special recognition; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Oliveira Middle |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | School Symphonic Band on their hard work and impressive musical |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | skills and extend to them best wishes for continued success; and, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | be it further |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
