SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 659
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band for its
outstanding achievements; and
WHEREAS, Oliveira Middle School is a campus of the
Brownsville Independent School District; the district has a
number of instrumental music programs in which nearly 5,000
students participate; the Oliveira Middle School's music program
has more than 500 of these students and continues to grow; the
district is dedicated to providing its students with
opportunities to exercise their creativity, and hard work and
creativity help students in all facets of their lives; and
WHEREAS, The Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band is
noted for its success; it was recognized as a Class AA winner by
the Foundation for Music Education in the National Wind Band
honors contest; and
WHEREAS, The symphonic band competed against more than 230
bands from 36 states in receiving this prestigious honor, and
three members of the band were recognized as outstanding
soloists; and
WHEREAS, Under the exemplary direction of Gaspar Garcia,
the band members have become outstanding performers and have
developed exceptional levels of musicianship and discipline; it
is truly fitting that the band receive special recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Oliveira Middle
School Symphonic Band on their hard work and impressive musical
skills and extend to them best wishes for continued success; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the band as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
