| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Doice Grant of Longview is being inducted into the |

| 3 | 3 | | Stephen F. Austin State University Band Directors' Hall of Fame |

| 4 | 4 | | on April 30, 2017; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A member of the Class of 1982, Mr. Grant graduated |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | with a bachelor's degree in music from Stephen F. Austin State |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | University, where he served as president and treasurer of Kappa |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Kappa Psi, the national honorary band fraternity; he was also an |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | active member of Pi Kappa Lambda and the Alpha Chi Honor Society, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and for his talents as an instrumentalist, he was named an |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Outstanding Bandsman by the Lumberjack Marching Band; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Grant went on to join the Carthage |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Independent School District as a middle school band director in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1983, and he piloted his students to two consecutive University |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Interscholastic League Sweepstakes Awards; in 1985, he assumed |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the baton at Center High School, and his ensemble received a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Sweepstakes Award each year of his tenure and twice won |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Outstanding Band honors at the National Association of Military |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Marching Bands Contest; following his retirement in 1993, he |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | became the owner of the Tatum Music Company, where he has |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | rendered invaluable service to bands across East Texas for nearly |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | a quarter century; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A proud Lumberjack, Mr. Grant played a vital role |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | in the formation of the university's Band Alumni Association, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | which he has served as president, and the university's Band |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Directors' Hall of Fame; he has further distinguished himself as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | president of the National Association of Military Marching Bands |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and as chair of Region 21 of the Texas Music Educators |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Association; moreover, he was selected in 1992 as a member of the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | international bandmasters' fraternity Phi Beta Mu; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Grant is supported by |

| 32 | 32 | | the love and encouragement of his wife, Beth, and he takes |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | immense pride in their two children, Rachel and Levi; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his outstanding career, Doice |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Grant has inspired countless young Texans through his unflagging |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | enthusiasm for music, and he is truly a credit to his alma mater; |

| 37 | 37 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Doice Grant on his induction |

| 40 | 40 | | into the Stephen F. Austin State University Band Directors' Hall |

| 41 | 41 | | of Fame and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
