                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 674
 WHEREAS, Doice Grant of Longview is being inducted into the
 Stephen F. Austin State University Band Directors' Hall of Fame
 on April 30, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, A member of the Class of 1982, Mr. Grant graduated
 with a bachelor's degree in music from Stephen F. Austin State
 University, where he served as president and treasurer of Kappa
 Kappa Psi, the national honorary band fraternity; he was also an
 active member of Pi Kappa Lambda and the Alpha Chi Honor Society,
 and for his talents as an instrumentalist, he was named an
 Outstanding Bandsman by the Lumberjack Marching Band; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Grant went on to join the Carthage
 Independent School District as a middle school band director in
 1983, and he piloted his students to two consecutive University
 Interscholastic League Sweepstakes Awards; in 1985, he assumed
 the baton at Center High School, and his ensemble received a
 Sweepstakes Award each year of his tenure and twice won
 Outstanding Band honors at the National Association of Military
 Marching Bands Contest; following his retirement in 1993, he
 became the owner of the Tatum Music Company, where he has
 rendered invaluable service to bands across East Texas for nearly
 a quarter century; and
 WHEREAS, A proud Lumberjack, Mr. Grant played a vital role
 in the formation of the university's Band Alumni Association,
 which he has served as president, and the university's Band
 Directors' Hall of Fame; he has further distinguished himself as
 president of the National Association of Military Marching Bands
 and as chair of Region 21 of the Texas Music Educators
 Association; moreover, he was selected in 1992 as a member of the
 international bandmasters' fraternity Phi Beta Mu; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Grant is supported by
 the love and encouragement of his wife, Beth, and he takes
 immense pride in their two children, Rachel and Levi; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of his outstanding career, Doice
 Grant has inspired countless young Texans through his unflagging
 enthusiasm for music, and he is truly a credit to his alma mater;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby congratulate Doice Grant on his induction
 into the Stephen F. Austin State University Band Directors' Hall
 of Fame and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 Mr. Grant as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
