11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 677
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the Texas A&M University equestrian team, which has won
44 the 2017 National Collegiate Equestrian Association national
55 championship; and
66 WHEREAS, The fifth-seeded Aggies won their 12th national
77 title, and first since 2012, by defeating Texas Christian
88 University by a score of 16-0 in the semifinal round and the
99 University of Georgia by a score of 11-5 in the final; and
1010 WHEREAS, The Aggies began the semifinals with 4-0 shutouts
1111 by the reining and equitation over fences teams, and the
1212 horsemanship and equitation on the flat squads finished the
1313 sweep; the University of Georgia provided a stiffer test, but the
1414 Aggies took an early 3-1 lead on the flat, led 6-2 after
1515 horsemanship, clinched the title by winning three matches in the
1616 reining event, and added victories over fences to complete the
1717 meet; and
1818 WHEREAS, Under the exceptional leadership of head coach
1919 Tana McKay, the Aggies have developed exceptional teamwork and
2020 discipline; and
2121 WHEREAS, Texans in College Station and across the state are
2222 proud of the Texas A&M University team members for their hard
2323 work and their impressive skills; now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
2525 Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to the Texas A&M
2626 University equestrian team on winning the 2017 National
2727 Collegiate Equestrian Association national championship; and, be
2828 it further
2929 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3030 the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
