SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 677 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Texas A&M University equestrian team, which has won the 2017 National Collegiate Equestrian Association national championship; and WHEREAS, The fifth-seeded Aggies won their 12th national title, and first since 2012, by defeating Texas Christian University by a score of 16-0 in the semifinal round and the University of Georgia by a score of 11-5 in the final; and WHEREAS, The Aggies began the semifinals with 4-0 shutouts by the reining and equitation over fences teams, and the horsemanship and equitation on the flat squads finished the sweep; the University of Georgia provided a stiffer test, but the Aggies took an early 3-1 lead on the flat, led 6-2 after horsemanship, clinched the title by winning three matches in the reining event, and added victories over fences to complete the meet; and WHEREAS, Under the exceptional leadership of head coach Tana McKay, the Aggies have developed exceptional teamwork and discipline; and WHEREAS, Texans in College Station and across the state are proud of the Texas A&M University team members for their hard work and their impressive skills; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to the Texas A&M University equestrian team on winning the 2017 National Collegiate Equestrian Association national championship; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
