| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Fran Valenzuela, who is being honored for her life of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | service and activism at a special ceremony on May 7, 2017; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Fran Valenzuela became involved in Texas politics |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | at the young age of six, when she worked beside her father helping |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | increase voter turnout; throughout her life, she has worked |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | diligently on behalf of Texans through her grassroots leadership |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and her unwavering support of the Harris County Democratic Party; |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | she is also known for her many years of active service on behalf |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of LULAC; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Valenzuela began a career as an educator in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the 1970s, and she is a lifetime member of both the Texas State |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Teachers Association and the National Education Association; she |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | has lobbied the Texas Legislature and Congress on behalf of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | public education, and she has also assisted the National |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Education Association in its mission to support future leaders by |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | helping to train women who are running for office; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In recent years, Fran Valenzuela has dedicated |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | much of her time and energy to registering voters, promoting |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | immigration reform, and addressing women's health care needs; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | she is respected and admired by many, and she is indeed deserving |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of recognition for her exemplary service on behalf of her fellow |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Fran Valenzuela for her many |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | contributions to her community and the state and extend to her |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | best wishes in all her future endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
