SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 710 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Fran Valenzuela, who is being honored for her life of service and activism at a special ceremony on May 7, 2017; and WHEREAS, Fran Valenzuela became involved in Texas politics at the young age of six, when she worked beside her father helping increase voter turnout; throughout her life, she has worked diligently on behalf of Texans through her grassroots leadership and her unwavering support of the Harris County Democratic Party; she is also known for her many years of active service on behalf of LULAC; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Valenzuela began a career as an educator in the 1970s, and she is a lifetime member of both the Texas State Teachers Association and the National Education Association; she has lobbied the Texas Legislature and Congress on behalf of public education, and she has also assisted the National Education Association in its mission to support future leaders by helping to train women who are running for office; and WHEREAS, In recent years, Fran Valenzuela has dedicated much of her time and energy to registering voters, promoting immigration reform, and addressing women's health care needs; she is respected and admired by many, and she is indeed deserving of recognition for her exemplary service on behalf of her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Fran Valenzuela for her many contributions to her community and the state and extend to her best wishes in all her future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
