| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Rex Café and Bakery in McAllen on the grand |

| 4 | 4 | | occasion of its 70th anniversary; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Rex Café and Bakery opened its doors to the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | public on April 23, 1947; it was established by Rogelio Guerrero, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | who returned to his Texas home after serving in the armed forces |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | during World War II, and it has remained in the Guerrero family |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | throughout its history; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Rex Café and Bakery is known as the home of the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | quintessential Mexican breakfast in McAllen; it is noted for |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | offering the same high-quality food and coffee that generations |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | of customers have enjoyed through the years, from its huevos |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | rancheros and chilaquiles to its famous signature breakfast |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | dish, "the Borracho"; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Today, it is managed by Baldemar Guerrero Jr., who |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | spent time in the café at a very young age when it was owned by his |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | father; he has maintained its famous family atmosphere, and the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | café is often the chosen site for first communions and other |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | special events by area citizens; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The Rex Café and Bakery has been an important part |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of the fabric of life in McAllen for 70 years, and it is truly |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | fitting that it receive special recognition in celebration of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Guerrero family and the staff of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the Rex Café and Bakery on their commitment to quality food and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | service and extend to all best wishes for continued success as they |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | celebrate the restaurant's 70th anniversary; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the café as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
