SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 716 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Rex Café and Bakery in McAllen on the grand occasion of its 70th anniversary; and WHEREAS, The Rex Café and Bakery opened its doors to the public on April 23, 1947; it was established by Rogelio Guerrero, who returned to his Texas home after serving in the armed forces during World War II, and it has remained in the Guerrero family throughout its history; and WHEREAS, The Rex Café and Bakery is known as the home of the quintessential Mexican breakfast in McAllen; it is noted for offering the same high-quality food and coffee that generations of customers have enjoyed through the years, from its huevos rancheros and chilaquiles to its famous signature breakfast dish, "the Borracho"; and WHEREAS, Today, it is managed by Baldemar Guerrero Jr., who spent time in the café at a very young age when it was owned by his father; he has maintained its famous family atmosphere, and the café is often the chosen site for first communions and other special events by area citizens; and WHEREAS, The Rex Café and Bakery has been an important part of the fabric of life in McAllen for 70 years, and it is truly fitting that it receive special recognition in celebration of this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend the Guerrero family and the staff of the Rex Café and Bakery on their commitment to quality food and service and extend to all best wishes for continued success as they celebrate the restaurant's 70th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the café as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
