| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to welcome |

| 3 | 3 | | Ariana Jones, the reigning Feria de las Flores queen, and the |

| 4 | 4 | | contestants of the 2017 Scholarship Pageant to the Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The pageant has been sponsored by the League of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | United Latin American Citizens Council Number 1 since 1959; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | through the years, the council has relied on the generosity and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | support of the South Texas business community and has raised more |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | than $1 million in scholarship funds for students from the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Coastal Bend region; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding event pays tribute to the heritage |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | of Mexican American citizens and features music, dance, and dress |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | that exemplify the various regions of our state's neighbor to the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | south; contestants in the pageant are judged on their performance |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | in the categories of beauty, personality, poise, costume, dance |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | routine, and onstage question; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Joining last year's winner, Ariana Jones, are the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | talented contestants in this year's pageant: Victoria Morin, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Mireya Medina, Megan Lopez, Corina Alegria, Desney Torres, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Katherine Flores, Valeria Arredondo, Antoinette Castillo, Kelly |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Flores, Mikayla Mondragon, Camryn Caylor, and Roslyn Jimenez; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, These young women have demonstrated great cultural |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | pride and community spirit through their participation in this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | exemplary event, and it is truly fitting that they receive special |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the reigning queen of Feria de las |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Flores, Ariana Jones, and the contestants of the 2017 Scholarship |

| 29 | 29 | | Pageant on their hard work and extend to them a sincere welcome to |

| 30 | 30 | | the Capitol; and, be it further |
