| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Bertha A. Lucio Caballero, who is retiring from |

| 4 | 4 | | Dr. Arnulfo L. Oliveira Middle School after a distinguished |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | career in education that has spanned nearly 50 years; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Bertie Caballero began teaching in 1967 at |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Central Jr. High School in Brownsville; over the years, she has |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | taught in Texas, Connecticut, California, and New York, and she |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | is retiring as the eighth-grade lead English teacher at Oliveira |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Middle School in Brownsville after 37 years of service; her |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | career at the school has included serving for 14 years as chair of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the English department; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Bertie Caballero has helped promote a culture of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | success at Oliveira Middle School through her commitment to the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | teaching profession and her extensive volunteerism; she has |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | contributed to an array of campus and district committees and has |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | represented the school at numerous state functions and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | superintendent councils, and she played an integral role in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | bringing academic team teaching to Brownsville middle schools; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | she has helped foster a spirit of civic responsibility in her |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | students by initiating classroom projects that benefit local |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | charities; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A beloved and highly respected educator, Bertie |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Caballero has gained widespread recognition for her work on |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | behalf of the students and the communities of the Rio Grande |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Valley; she has been honored for excellence by numerous |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | publications, businesses, and civic groups, and she was named the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Outstanding Teacher of the Year for the Region One Service Center |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | for the 1999-2000 school year; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Bertie Caballero has |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | exemplified the highest ideals of her profession; she has been a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | positive influence in the lives of countless young citizens, and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | her presence at Dr. Arnulfo L. Oliveira Middle School will be |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby commend Bertha A. Lucio Caballero on her |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | outstanding career in education and her many contributions to the |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Rio Grande Valley and extend to her best wishes in all her future |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 41 | 41 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
