| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Montgomery County in celebrating the |

| 4 | 4 | | dedication of the Salvation Army Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope |

| 5 | 5 | | in Conroe on May 15, 2017; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Salvation Army is an international |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | organization dedicated to spreading the Christian gospel and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | meeting the human needs of people without discrimination; it |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | began serving the people of Southeast Texas in 1889; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope is named in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | honor of Wayne Bergstrom, a longtime teacher and coach who was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | born in the Salvation Army Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, on |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | August 1, 1932, and retired to Montgomery in 1996 with his wife, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Jean; Mr. Bergstrom was a dedicated supporter of the Salvation |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Army and its ministries in the area and was a longtime member of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the Advisory Council and chair of the Advisory Council serving |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Montgomery County; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope will have four |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | large family rooms and will replace the current shelter's 18 bunk |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | beds with large separate dormitories for single men and single |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | women; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope will play a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | vital role in helping the Salvation Army fulfill its mission in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Montgomery County; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Salvation Army on its commitment |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | to serving the less fortunate and extend to its staff and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | volunteers in Montgomery County best wishes for a memorable |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | dedication ceremony for the Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope; and, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
