SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 742 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Montgomery County in celebrating the dedication of the Salvation Army Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope in Conroe on May 15, 2017; and WHEREAS, The Salvation Army is an international organization dedicated to spreading the Christian gospel and meeting the human needs of people without discrimination; it began serving the people of Southeast Texas in 1889; and WHEREAS, The Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope is named in honor of Wayne Bergstrom, a longtime teacher and coach who was born in the Salvation Army Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 1, 1932, and retired to Montgomery in 1996 with his wife, Jean; Mr. Bergstrom was a dedicated supporter of the Salvation Army and its ministries in the area and was a longtime member of the Advisory Council and chair of the Advisory Council serving Montgomery County; and WHEREAS, The Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope will have four large family rooms and will replace the current shelter's 18 bunk beds with large separate dormitories for single men and single women; and WHEREAS, The Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope will play a vital role in helping the Salvation Army fulfill its mission in Montgomery County; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend the Salvation Army on its commitment to serving the less fortunate and extend to its staff and volunteers in Montgomery County best wishes for a memorable dedication ceremony for the Wayne Bergstrom Center of Hope; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
