| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Podiatric Medical Association |

| 3 | 3 | | are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the organization's |

| 4 | 4 | | founding on June 24, 2017; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The TPMA traces its origins back to October 22, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 1917, when the Texas Chiropodist Society held its first organized |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | meeting; in 1923, the 38th Texas Legislature passed a bill adding |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the practice of chiropody, now known as podiatry, to the Medical |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Practice Act, and in 1939, the State of Texas began independently |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | licensing chiropodists; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The organization adopted the Texas Podiatric |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Medical Association as its name in 1986; today, its membership |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | includes more than 680 doctors of podiatric medicine, or |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | podiatrists, who are uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | conditions affecting the foot and ankle; the care that they |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | provide to Texas patients can reduce hospitalizations and save |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | millions of dollars in medical costs, and their services are of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | crucial importance to diabetic patients with complications of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the lower extremities; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, For a century, the Texas Podiatric Medical |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Association has advanced the interests and standard of care of a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | medical profession that is vital to the well-being of countless |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Texans, and it is a pleasure for the Senate to join the association |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | in recognizing this special milestone in its history; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby honor the Texas Podiatric Medical Association |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | on its centennial celebration and commend the men and women of this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | exemplary organization for their important work; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 31 | 31 | | the Texas Podiatric Medical Association as an expression of high |
|---|
