| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Sharon Pierce, who is retiring on June 1, 2017, after 36 |

| 4 | 4 | | years of outstanding service as state advisor for the Texas |

| 5 | 5 | | Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished career in the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | field of education, Sharon Pierce served as a classroom teacher for |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 42 years and was a staff member for the Texas Education Agency; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Under her exemplary leadership, the Texas |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America has |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | successfully navigated the challenging transition from the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | traditional home economics model of the Future Homemakers of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | America to a more comprehensive family and consumer sciences model; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | she was able to uphold the organization's proud history while |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | making it more relevant in today's rapidly changing society; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Pierce established industry advisory groups to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | ensure the organization's career and leadership development |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | initiatives continue to be effective, and she cultivated the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | partnerships that resulted in the creation of a post-secondary |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | educational scholarship program that today awards $1.9 million each |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | year to graduating seniors; she has received prestigious awards from |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the organization for her exceptional service and leadership; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and administrator, she is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | respected and admired by her colleagues, and her presence as a state |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | advisor with the Texas Association of Family, Career and Community |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Leaders of America will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Sharon Pierce on her invaluable |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | contributions to the Texas Association of Family, Career and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Community Leaders of America and to our state and extend to her best |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further |
