                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 784
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Sharon Pierce, who is retiring on June 1, 2017, after 36
 years of outstanding service as state advisor for the Texas
 Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished career in the
 field of education, Sharon Pierce served as a classroom teacher for
 42 years and was a staff member for the Texas Education Agency; and
 WHEREAS, Under her exemplary leadership, the Texas
 Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America has
 successfully navigated the challenging transition from the
 traditional home economics model of the Future Homemakers of
 America to a more comprehensive family and consumer sciences model;
 she was able to uphold the organization's proud history while
 making it more relevant in today's rapidly changing society; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Pierce established industry advisory groups to
 ensure the organization's career and leadership development
 initiatives continue to be effective, and she cultivated the
 partnerships that resulted in the creation of a post-secondary
 educational scholarship program that today awards $1.9 million each
 year to graduating seniors; she has received prestigious awards from
 the organization for her exceptional service and leadership; and
 WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and administrator, she is
 respected and admired by her colleagues, and her presence as a state
 advisor with the Texas Association of Family, Career and Community
 Leaders of America will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend Sharon Pierce on her invaluable
 contributions to the Texas Association of Family, Career and
 Community Leaders of America and to our state and extend to her best
 wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
