| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Martha May Tevis, who is retiring on May 31, 2017, |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | after 50 years of exceptional service with The University of |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Texas Rio Grande Valley; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Tevis joined the faculty of The University of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Texas Rio Grande Valley in 1967 when it was still known as Pan |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | American College; a native of Wichita Falls, she earned a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Our Lady of the Lake |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | University and a doctorate in the History and Philosophy of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Education from The University of Texas at Austin; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her long and distinguished |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | career, she has served the university in several capacities, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | including those of professor, program coordinator, grant |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | director, and department chair; she has worked closely with |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | graduate students and has chaired or cochaired many dissertation |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | committees; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Tevis has been honored by her university with |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | awards for exceptional teaching, service, and achievement; she |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | was also named by the alumni association as the recipient of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Distinguished Faculty Award; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary educator, she has inspired her |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | colleagues and her students with her great passion for teaching, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and her presence at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Martha May Tevis on her commitment |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | to excellence in education and extend to her best wishes for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
